“The Essential Ocean” by Trevin Carley

1.The hot engines rattling nonstop
to tow the large net swiftly.
Surrounding the salmon.

2.Swimmimg violently onwards,
white water hurling over rocks.
Never able to give up,
the salmon swim on.

3.Standing alone with determination,
continuing to grip the pole.
Unable to abandon hope,
for I will go to sleep hungry.

4.Attempting to maintain balance,
leaning over the rail anxiously.
Will this next hook provide?

5.Falling from the ominous sky,
it flows down valley sides.
Only to be collected in a lake.

6.Once flowing freely,
pursuing big dreams.
Now stuck to the ground,
frozen and lonely.
