“Pacific Habitat” by Margo Waring

Rivers accept all waters:
seepings from fern covered rocks,
from footprints and wolf tracks.
Runoff from feedlots and fallow fields,
from waste dumps and rain storms.
Flows from icy rivulets and hot springs,
from city streets and storm drains,
from factory waste and ship discharges.
Currents from creeks buried below buildings,
from contaminated groundwater and toxic disposals.
Floods from mining sludge and clear cutting.
Rivers accept all waters.
Pacific refuses no rivers.
