The United States Department of Agriculture announced that the long-awaited 60-day public process restoring the national Roadless Rule to the Tongass will open on Tuesday, November 23. During the 60-day comment period, the public can submit official comments on the Biden administration’s decision to move to repeal the Trump-era, so-called “Alaska-specific” Roadless Rule, which removed 2001 national Roadless Rule protections from the Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska. The public will be able to submit comments for the record signaling their support for the protection of the national Roadless Rule through January 22, 2022.
We need all hands on deck, which means SEACC is seeking committed volunteers! Sign up to join Team Tongass so we can ensure that this comment period is a success.
In 2019 we sent a strong message — 96% of comments supported Roadless Rule protections. This is our opportunity to set the record straight for good, that Southeast Alaskans and our supporters around the country stand with Roadless Rule protections. Our past efforts have greatly influenced the Biden Administration’s decision to pursue Roadless protections. Let’s make it politically dangerous for future administrations to come after the Tongass again, and to make that a reality, we have to bring our comments home one more time.
