Climate-oriented groups in Juneau — WECAN, 350 Juneau, AYEA, and SEACC — will be holding a local event during the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) to address how they are combatting the climate crisis in Southeast Alaska. The Juneau COP27 Meetup will happen at Overstreet Park — aka The Whale — where we will discuss and field questions on climate change from the public and media.
We will be hosting a Rally for Alaska’s Climate on Friday, Feb. 3, at noon at the Dimond Courthouse Plaza, to show our legislators that we as Alaskans are demanding responsible climate action be taken this year!
POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE DUE TO WEATHER The National Roadless Rule has been officially restored to the Tongass National Forest! After four hard years of comment periods, community meetings, postcards, and announcement after announcement, we can finally take a moment to reflect, and to celebrate. SEACC will be hosting a celebration at our Juneau office (2207 Jordan Avenue) on Wednesday, Feb. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be door prizes, potluck-style food and drinks, cards to write thank you notes to the Biden administration, and a few speakers who’ll give some brief comments and reflections. It's going to be a fun time — we look forward to seeing you there!
Do you know all about water and mining in the Inside Passage? Got your Southeast geography down? Know the Tongass like a friend? Join us on Thursday, March 9 for a conservation-themed trivia night! We'll be at The Imperial in downtown Juneau starting at 7:30 p.m.
The National Roadless Rule has been officially restored to the Tongass National Forest! After four hard years of comment periods, community meetings, postcards, and announcement after announcement, we can finally take a moment to reflect, and to celebrate. Join us for our rescheduled Roadless Rule Celebration and Potluck on Saturday, March 18, at the Juneau Yacht Club (1301 Harbor Way) starting at 5 p.m. All SEACC’s staff and board — including those who normally live and work outside of Juneau — will be in town that week for our spring board meeting, so you’ll get to chat and eat with more of us than usual. We know spring is busy, so feel free to stop by for as little or as long as you’d like. There will be door prizes and blank thank-you notes for thanking the Biden administration for their decision. And of course, it’s a potluck, so please bring a dish you’d love to share!
Join us at the Juneau Yacht Club (1301 Harbor Way) on Friday, April 21, for an evening with Kim Heacox and friends! You’ll be able to purchase Kim’s new book and enjoy a wonderful evening of storytelling, book signing, Q&A, and more. Kim Heacox, the author of the National Outdoor Book Award-winning “Jimmy Bluefeather,” returns with “On Heaven's Hill,” a brilliant new novel about family love and the lengths one will go to protect it. Friday’s event will be hosted by Hearthside Books, in partnership with SEACC. Naturalist Hank Lentfer, author and a former SEACC board member, will have a special guest appearance. Plus, SEACC’s very own Executive Director Meredith Trainor will say a few words. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., followed by the presentation at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be provided, and any donations made to SEACC at the event will enter you in a drawing to win a few cool prizes!
