SUMMARY:Tongass Literary Night: Featuring Authors Hank Lentfer and Russell Heath
DESCRIPTION:Join SEACC for a literary look of the Tongass National Forest with authors Hank Lentfer and Russell Heath\, Tuesday\, Dec. 8\, 2020\, from 3-4:30 p.m. Alaska Time. \nWe are thrilled to be able to present these two authors\, their experience and their excellent writing for this online book event! \nClick Here The Day Of The Event To Attend!\nLifelong Alaskan Hank Lentfer lives his life with the seasons\, and he writes in the winters. His latest book\, “Raven’s Witness: The Alaska Life of Richard K. Nelson” recently won the 2020 Banff Mountain Book Award Winner – Grand Prize for its exploration of naturalist Richard K. Nelson’s life. Called Nels by his friends\, Richard’s life was a unique cultural bridge between Indigenous cultures and western culture as well as a persistent\, courageous labor for the health of the wild flora and fauna of Southeast Alaska. \nRussell Heath\, a previous SEACC Executive Director\, seasoned activist\, world traveler\, and novelist recently released his second novel: “Rinn’s Crossing.” A pulse-pounding political thriller set in Southeast Alaska\, this novel holds a unique place in the world as a fictitious exploration of the incredibly real political machinations around timber\, the Tongass\, and the lives of the people who live here. \nBoth books will be available for sale! Click Here The Day Of The Event To Attend!

SUMMARY:Roadless Rule FEIS Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The Tongass National Forest is under threat because the State of Alaska seeks to exempt the Tongass from the National Roadless Rule. The Forest Service and Secretary Sonny Perdue recently released the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Alaska Roadless Rule. The FEIS recommends removing Roadless Rule protections from 9.3 million acres of the Tongass National Forest. \nDespite support for keeping National Roadless Rule protections on the Tongass from 96% of public comments\, the FEIS indicated the recommended alternative as the full exemption (Alternative 6). This could lead to new logging roads and more old-growth clearcut logging on the Tongass. \nThe webinar will be a deep dive into the Alaska Roadless Rule FEIS and the recommended alternative\, and discuss how you can take action moving forward. There will also be time for questions. \nSign up below to join our Roadless Rule FEIS Webinar on Wednesday\, October 14 at 5:30pm AKST (9:30pm EST). Once you sign up\, don’t forget to mark your calendar and check your inbox because you will receive an email with all the details you need to join the Zoom call.
