In 1994, SEACC outlined a vision of a sustainable, value-added forest products industry on the Tongass.  In the mid-1990s we worked with the Forest Service, logging operators, and others to get the microsale timber program started on Prince of Wales Island.  The program makes it easy for operators to select dead and down timber along the road system and for small, local mills to get the timber they need to operate with minimum impact to the forest.
