SEACC has long held the view that it was possible to log some portions of the Tongass while maintaining the ecological integrity of the forest, as long as it is down at a sustainable scale.  In the past this has not been the case.  In recent years,  there have been some steps forward.  To encourage the Tongass timber industry to continue its shift in scale and scope toward a more sustainable industry in the future, our Wild Idea allows for responsible logging in areas that have already been logged and roaded and now consist of trees large enough to be logged again.  Some carefully-selected old-growth trees could also be logged.
