Community Forest Projects
In the Tongass, the forest is an integral part of everyday life, and community members use its resources in a wide variety of ways.
Whether its working in a commercial fishery or sustainable wood products industry or gathering food for dinner tonight or through the winter, a well-managed Tongass can supply what local residents need to live and live well.
The forest also provides opportunities for recreation, contemplation, adventure and discovery for people of all ages.
To help get all of these uses reflected in forest management, SEACC is developing community forest projects that start with the people who actually live, work and play on the land. By addressing their needs first, the forest and region as a whole benefit.
