dan solar panelsSEACC's Dan Lesh wires a solar panel at the Williams’ residence in Angoon. The solar panels were installed as part of a collaborative renewable energy and energy efficiency demonstration project SEACC completed along with Tlingit and Haida Central Council and Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority. The project grew out of concerns in Angoon about high energy prices and diesel-dependence and a desire in the community to explore renewable energy and other options that can have an impact in the short to medium term.

The Williams’ home was selected based on interest, need and favorable site characteristics to receive solar panel, a solar hot water system, LED light bulbs, and a major energy efficiency and weatherization retrofit. Their house will serve as a potential model for Angoon and other rural native communities struggling with high energy prices.
